Microbe management: application of mycorrhyzal fungi in sustainable agriculture

چکیده
ing in the rhizosphere for decades, in the form of plant growth-promoting microorganisms. Efforts to incorporate microbial management into mainstream practices have not been successful. In fact, the same practices that increased yields in the last 50 years (namely fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides) have largely eradicated natural rhizosphere microbes in agrosystems (Matson et al. 1997) and may prevent introduced beneficial populations from establishing in agricultural soils. One particularly widespread and beneficial group of rhizosphere microbes, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), has yet to be fully utilized in agriculture, despite its substantial influence on plant productivity. New research suggests that AMF have multiple ecosystem functions and are an ideal tool in any field where plants and their communities are manipulated, including sustainable agriculture, landscape restoration, and horticulture, among others. However, the same research also points to gaps in our understanding of AMF functions. The practical use of AMF and other microbes will not progress until these issues are addressed. Why use microorganisms?

Appropriate management of soil phosphorus (P) fertility in highly calcareous soils of Iran as around the world should rely upon sound knowledge about the phosphorus reserve and its bioavailability. Despite numerous reports on the positive effects of vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae (VAM) fungi on phosphorus uptake which is associated to Ectomycorrhiza as a branch of two major branches of group ...

ventional monocultural crop systems often supported by high inputs of pesticides and fertilizers to sustainable agriculture. Although precise definitions of sustainable agriculture vary, one key aspect is a reduction in agrichemical inputs with a corresponding shift to alternative crop protection strategies, such as cultural practices, organic amendments, resistant or tolerant crop varieties, a...

The management of soil elements by biological fertilizers is considered as an important attribute of sustainable agriculture. In order to evaluate the interaction effects of Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and redroot pigweed (Amaranthus retroflexus L.) on growth and yield of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) under water stress conditions, a field study was conducted in 2015 at School of Agricultur...

Mutual relationship between endophytic fungi and some gramineuos plants is one of the recently known host-microbe interactions. Endophytic fungi are classified in class Ascomycetes, order Hypocreales, tribe Balansieae and mostly genus Neotyphodium. They are transferred into the progeny via maternal stock and have many benificial effects to their host plants, such as resistance to pests and dise...
